Spider Baseball Completes Sweep of Siena with Shutout

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Baseball team finished the three-game series sweep of Siena College Sunday, with a 14-0 decision in seven innings at Pitt Field.
With the win, Richmond moves to 10-10 on the season and will return to Pitt Field to host Towson Wednesday March 22. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Spiders jumped on Siena's starter, scoring three runs on four hits. After Christian Beal and Alden Mathes both reached with base hits, Jason Neff legged out a triple to put the Spiders up 2-0 three batters into the frame. Jake Elbeery followed with an RBI double.
Richmond put the game out of reach in the fourth, picking up six runs on three hits, five walks and one Siena miscue. Three Siena pitchers took the mound in the fourth as three runs scored on Saints pitcher command issues. Will Gersky picked up an RBI base hit to score Jordan Jaffe from second for the Spiders sixth run of the frame.
The Spiders tacked on four more in the fifth. Jake Topolski tallied a pinch-hit single to score Jason Neff from second. Topolski and Elbeery, who was hit by a pitch, scored on Jordan Jaffe's double to center. Sprague-Lott tallied the fourth run of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch to put the Spiders up 13-0.
Elbeery picked up his second RBI of the day on his third hit, scoring Shane Gipson from second in the sixth inning.
The Richmond pitching staff had a strong day on the mound to finish with 24 scoreless of 25 innings this weekend. Jeremy Neff tossed two scoreless innings on the mound for the Spiders. He allowed one hit and picked up two strikeouts. Kyle Subers picked up the win after scattering one hit and two walks with a season-high six strikeouts over three scoreless innings of work. Chase Topolski gave up one hit and a walk for a clean inning while Brian Reinke picked up two strikeouts and allowed a hit in his inning on the mound.
