RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond Baseball fell 12-6 Wednesday to the Towson Tigers at Pitt Field.

Richmond, now 10-11 on the season, heads on the road for a weekend series against St. Johns in Queens, N.Y., starting Friday afternoon.

Towson picked up two runs to start the game, but the Spiders answered with two of their own in the second. Johnny Hipsman and Jared Sprague-Lott scored on Jordan Jaffe's double down the left field line to tie the game.

Spiders starting pitcher Jake Michel settled into a rhythm after allowing two runs in the first to collect three scoreless frames. The Tigers got to Michel in the fifth, scoring six runs to take an 8-2 lead. Michel allowed eight runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout over four and a third of an inning of work in the loss.

Zach Lass and Hipsman kicked off the fifth with back-to-back singles and scored on Mikey Kluska's base hit through the infield to cut the Tigers lead in half, 8-4.

Towson added two more runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to put the game out of reach for Richmond. The Spiders picked up two runs in the seventh. Jaffe picked up his third RBI of the game with a double as Sprague-Lott scored from first after drawing a walk to start the inning. Chase Conklin scored Jaffe with a pinch-hit base hit.

Cole Hentschel allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two over one and two thirds of an inning as the first Spider out of the bullpen. Chase Topolski allowed two runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout over two-thirds of an inning in the seventh. Dane Armson allowed two runs on two hits and one walk over one and a third of an inning. Harrison Clifton tossed a clean ninth, picking up two strike outs.
