Spider Baseball Drops Series Finale at St. John’s

QUEENS, N.Y. – The University of Richmond Baseball team dropped the final game of the weekend 5-3 to St. John's Sunday afternoon. Unable to answer the Red Storm's late rally, the Spiders fall to 11-13 on the season.
Richmond is back in action Tuesday, hosting Longwood at Pitt Field for a 2:30 PM first pitch.
The Spiders scored first when Mikey Kluska scored from second on Christian Beal's base hit to left. Richmond took a 2-0 lead when Kluska scored on Jason Neff's single down the right field line.
Richmond starter Jeremy Neff tossed four scoreless innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts in his third outing of the year.
Kyle Subers threw two scoreless innings, working around two walks, with three strikeouts. After getting two more strikeouts in the seventh, St. John's got to Subers in his third inning of work, picking up two runs on a Spider miscue. The Red Storm pushed two more runs across to take a 4-2 lead in the inning as UR reliever Dane Armson didn't record an out. Cole Hentschel got a groundout to end the frame.
Jared Sprague-Lott hit a two out solo home run to left center in the eighth for his team-leading sixth of the season and second on the weekend to put the Spiders within one.
St. John's answered with a run in the bottom of the eighth to go back up by two. Hentchel allowed one earned run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning of work. Jimmy Starnes walked two and hit one without recording an out before Brian Reinke got the final two outs of the frame, getting the first batter he faced to ground out into a double play.
