Spiders Drop Season Series to Longwood

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Baseball team fell to Longwood University Lancers, 12-2, Tuesday afternoon at Pitt Field.
Richmond, now 11-14 on the season, open Atlantic 10 action this weekend, when the squad hosts Saint Joseph's. First pitch between the Spiders and the Hawks is set for Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Pitt Field on ESPN+.
The Lancers jumped on the Spider pitchers, putting up two in the first inning off of starter Jake Michel. Longwood also tacked on four runs in the third. Michel went three innings, allowing six runs on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
The Spiders got on the board in the fourth inning. Jordan Jaffe drew a walk and was followed by a base hit by Jared Sprague-Lott. Andrew Papantonis, in his first start of the season, hit a two-out double to score Jaffe and Sprague-Lott and put the Spiders within four, 6-2.
Harrison Clifton tossed back-to-back scoreless frames for the Spiders, allowing one hit and collecting a strikeout. Longwood got to him in his third inning of work, scoring three runs on one hit, three walks and an error to go up 9-2.
Chase Topolski was the next Spider reliever to face Longwood. He allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts over one and two-third of an inning of work.
Matt Anderson tossed two innings, scattering one run on two hits while collecting his first career strikeout.
