Spider Baseball Falls on the Road to GW

ARLINGTON, Va. – Richmond Baseball dropped the first game against George Washington in an Atlantic 10 Conference weekend series, 3-2, Friday at Tucker Field at Barcroft Field.
The Spiders, now 12-18 on the season and 1-3 in league action, and the Colonials, 10-20 on the year and 2-2 conference play, will face off at 1 p.m. on Saturday on ESPN+.
The Colonials struck first, taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning. GW capitalized on two hit batters and a walk to load the bases. The Colonials runs scored on a base hit, a sacrifice fly and a ground out.
Johnny Hipsman led off the Spiders fourth with a base hit and was followed by singles from Jason Neff and Alden Mathes to load the bases. With two outs, Jake Elbeery drew a walk and forced in Hipsman to score.
The Spiders scored in the fifth when Chase Conklin scored on Hipsman's sacrifice fly after leading off the inning with a double down the right field line.
Richmond starter Brenden Argomaniz look the loss, allowing all three runs on one hit, five walks and three hit batters with three strike outs in three and two-thirds of an inning. Esteban Rodriguez tossed four and a third of an inning in relief. He scattered two hits, a hit batter and one walk while striking out five.
