RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond Baseball rallied to came from behind and tie the game in the eighth but fell to VCU 9-8 Saturday at The Diamond. The Atlantic 10 Conference series finale is set for 1 PM Sunday at The Diamond on ESPN+.

Richmond (22-25, 11-8 A-10) took a quick lead to open the game, posting three runs in the first inning. With two outs, the Spiders strung together a single, hit by pitch and back-to-back walks to force in the game's first run. Jake Elbeery then plated two runs with a base hit to left center for a 3-0 UR lead.

VCU (24-27, 10-10 A-10) got on the board in the second inning, posting five runs with two-outs in the inning on UR starter Jeremy Neff. Neff would be lifted in the third after VCU tacked on three more runs and go up 8-3.

Brenden Argomaniz got the final two outs of the third then tossed five scoreless frames, working around three hits, three walks and three hit batters.

UR chipped away at VCU's lead, getting a run in the fourth, sixth, seventh and two in the eighth.

Johnny Hipsman extended his hit streak to 20-games with an RBI base hit in the fourth. Jared Sprague-Lott scored from first on Jordan Jaffe's double in the sixth before Elbeery scored on Chase Conklin's second hit of the game in the seventh. Jaffe launched his 11^th home run of the season in the eighth, picking up Sprague-Lott to tie the game at 8-all.

Argomaniz hit the first two batters he faced in the ninth before Alden Mathes came in from center to take over. Mathes struck out the first two batters he faced, but gave up the game-winning base hit to left and allowed an inherited runner to score.
