
Spider Field Hockey Falls at #6 Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Richmond field hockey team fell to #6 Saint Joseph's, 7-0, Friday afternoon at Ellen Ryan Field to snap the squad's Atlantic 10 Conference unbeaten streak.
Richmond, now 10-4 on the season and 4-1 in A-10 action, returns to action Sunday in Philadelphia, taking on Penn for the first time in program history at noon on ESPN-Plus from Ellen Vagelos Field.
The squads played a tough and physical scoreless first quarter of action. UR goalkeeper Kristen Rake made two saves as the Hawks had three shots and one corner in the first 15 minutes of the game.
SJU got on the board in the 24th minute as the Hawks scored off a rebound from the first shot in a corner play. SJU made 2-0 in the 28th minute on another corner play.
Rake added five more saves to her total as the Hawks took eight more shots and picked up three penalty corners in the second quarter.
The Spiders were unable to shift the Hawks momentum in the second half, as Saint Joseph's lead increased by four more goals in the third quarter and one in the fourth.
This is the first game all season that the Spiders did not register a shot or penalty corner. Rake finished with nine saves on 22 shots faced and eight penalty corners awarded.
