Women’s Tennis Announces 2025 Spring Schedule
12/13/2024 | Women's Tennis
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team has revealed its 2025 spring schedule, featuring 11 home matches at the Westhampton Tennis Complex and a pair of matches out west against Northern Arizona and UNLV.
"I'm really happy with how the schedule developed," said head coach Jacob Dunbar. "We have some really good non-conference matches through the first half of our season, which will help prepare us for the second leg that's almost all conference opponents leading into our Atlantic 10 Conference tournament. Conference matches are always going to be vital and we're lucky to be able to play all of them at home this year."
Richmond begins its spring campaign on January 17 with a road trip to Old Dominion. The team returns home on January 26 to host Navy in its home opener before hitting the road again in February for contests against Towson (Feb. 2) and Virginia Tech (Feb. 16). The Spiders close out February with a match at Campbell on February 28.
In March, Richmond's schedule intensifies with a blend of non-conference and A-10 action. The Spiders visit East Carolina on March 1 and then head west for matches against Northern Arizona (March 11) and UNLV (March 13). Following the spring break trip, Richmond travels to Liberty (March 16) before playing host to Fordham (March 21), and defending A-10 champion UMass on March 22 to begin a pivotal stretch of home matches.
The Spiders continue their A-10 slate with home contests against George Mason (March 28), Duquesne (March 29), and non-conference opponent Georgetown (March 30).
April is highlighted by matches at William & Mary on April 5 and a home stretch against Delaware (April 6), and VCU (April 10). After a road contest at Hampton on April 12, Richmond wraps up its regular season at home against Davidson (April 13), St. Joseph's (April 18) and George Washington (April 19). The Atlantic 10 Championship is from April 24-27 in Orlando, Florida at the USTA National Campus.
Dunbar welcomes back Lara Bakhaya, Andrea Campodonico, Claire Le Du, Elizabeth Novak, Lainey O'Neil and Lucy Webber to the roster for the spring season in addition to welcoming freshmen Sofia Barbulescu, Abby Lee and Amy Walsh. In the fall season, Barbulescu posted a 9-5 singles record including capturing the Conference Masters Qualifying title. The freshman picked up two wins over South Dakota and San Diego in the Conference Masters Tournament before falling to Oklahoma State in the quarterfinal. The Spiders will also enter the new year with two doubles teams ranked in the top 120 ITA rankings, No. 105 Novak/Barbulescu and No. 116 Webber/O'Neil.
"Every year brings new energy, new players, and fresh enthusiasm," Dunbar said. "The team has done a great job finding its rhythm early this fall. As we look ahead to the spring, everyone is aligned on our goals. It will take a collective effort, and the team is not only aware of that but also ready to tackle it. This is evident in our doubles performance, where having two ranked pairs to end the fall is a significant achievement for our program. Lizzie, Sofia, Lainey, and Lucy have done an outstanding job this fall, and we are proud of their contributions. Their performance reflects the team's progress and indicates we are on the right track. The season is still young, and we will face challenges along the way, but I'm optimistic about what this team can accomplish, starting with our first match in January."
