RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond baseball team bounced back from a 4-1 defeat in the first game of the doubleheader for an 11-4 game two win against Marist Sunday at Pitt Field.
Richmond, now 6-8 on the year, will host Princeton in a Monday matinee at Pitt Field. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
In game two, Marist tallied a run in the first, but Richmond answered with two of their own when Wilga hit a two-run blast to left for the first home run of his collegiate career. Jackson Kraemer tallied an RBI-double in the third to break a 2-2 tie, but the Red Foxes knotted the game at 3-all in the top of the fifth.
The Spiders broke open the game in the sixth scoring eight runs on six hits, three hit batters and one walk. Phil Bernstein scored the first UR run of the frame on a Jason Shockley base hit to break the tie. Joey Wilga who reached twice in the inning after getting hit, scored on a wild pitch. Aidan O'Keefe tallied a two-RBI double to score Shockley and RJ Rickabaugh to go up 7-3.
Continuing the RBI hit parade, Chase Conklin tallied a two-RBI base hit to score O'Keefe and Jake Elbeery. Bernstein picked up Kraemer for his RBI base hit and team-leading 15th RBI of the season. Conklin came in on Shockley's RBI sacrifice fly for the eighth run of the frame and put the Spiders up 11-3.
Marist got a run back in the seventh off reliever Esteban Rodriguez. Rodriguez got the win, moving to 2-0 on the season after tossing five innings in relief of starter Vincent Corso. Rodriguez scattered three runs, two earned, on five hits, five walks and five strikeouts. Corso tossed the first two innings of the game, allowing one run on one hit and three walks. Cole Hentschel tossed the final two innings, striking out two.
In the first game, Richmond stuck first when Pacheco, who led off the first with a double, scored on Shockley's base hit to left.
Unfortunately, that's all the run support UR pitchers got. Brian Reinke (0-2) scattered three runs one earned on two hits, three walks and four strikeouts over five innings of work. Davis Wallon tallied one run on one hit and four walks in an inning and two thirds, while Logan Ymker finished the last two and a third of an inning of action, picking up a strikeout.
