Spider Baseball Puts on Offensive Show in Win Over Princeton

Richmond, 7-8 on the season, returns to Pitt Field Wednesday to host Lafayette for a 1:30 p.m. contest on ESPN+.
Princeton quickly tallied two runs in the first, but then it was all Richmond offensively.
Starting pitcher Jackson Kraemer got the Spiders scoring going in the second, pushing in Jake Elbeery with a base hit to right. Kraemer and Aidan O'Keefe both scored on a Tiger error for a 3-2 lead.
O'Keefe tallied two more RBI in the third to put UR up 5-3 before Princeton tallied two in the top of the fourth. Kraemer, stayed in to hit, but went three and two-thirds of an inning on the mound in his first pitching start as a Spider. He scattered four runs on seven hits, one hit batter and three strikeouts.
The Spider offense picked him up in the bottom of the fourth, posting 12 runs on 10 hits, one error, one hit batter and one walk. Seven runs came with two outs in the in the inning.
Jason Shockley hit a three-run home run, bringing in Joey Wilga and Bernstein, who both tallied base hits through the infield. Jake Topolski doubled in RJ Rickabaugh before scoring on O'Keefe's base hit. Bernstein tallied a two-RBI base hit with the bases loaded to move the Spiders to a 12-4 lead. Wilga tallied another base hit in the frame, pushing in DJ Pacheco. Rickabaugh, for his second home run of the season, launched a grand slam to right for a 16-4 lead.
Princeton tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth, and two more in the seventh, but the deficit was too much for their offense.
Shockley hit a solo home run for his second of the day in the sixth before Elbeery tallied his second hit of the day to score Topolski.
Topolski led off the eighth with his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left to make it 20-8. Bernstein pushed in a run with the bases loaded with a ground out. Wilga cleared the bases with a two-RBI base hit before scoring on Shockley's double and career-high fifth hit of the game.
Matthew Anderson (1-1) collected his first collegiate victory after tossing two and a third of an inning in relief. He scattered four runs on five hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Harrison Clifton threw two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three, while Dane Armson tossed the ninth, allowing one hit before the runner was erased on a double play.
