Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short for Spider Baseball

HIGH POINT, NC – DJ Pacheco tallied his fourth home run, a two-run shot, of the season in the ninth to put the University of Richmond baseball team within two runs at 5-3. The Spiders rally couldn't regain momentum after a High Point pitching change.
Richmond, now 9-12 on the season, will face High Point for game two of the series Saturday at 4 PM on ESPN+.
High Point batters pecked at UR starter Kyle Roche, getting single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings. Roche takes the loss after scattering three runs on nine hits, a walk, two balks and two strikeouts in six innings of work.
In the top of the seventh, RJ Rickabaugh got the offense going by drawing a walk, then advanced on Jake Topolski's base hit to center field. With one out, Jack Arcamone laced a ball to left to score Rickabaugh putting Richmond within two, 3-1.
Richmond reliever Davis Wallon tossed the seventh, allowing one run on one hit, one walk and one strikeout in the five batters he faced.
Harrison Clifton made his 12th appearance out of the bullpen to throw the eighth inning. He allowed one run on one hit and a walk.
