03/09/2024 | Women's Lacrosse
Pittsburgh, Pa. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse program dominated the Dukes of Duquesne on Saturday, winning the matchup 20-9 on the road. The Spiders boost their record to 5-2 as the all-time series between the program now stands at 17-6 in favor of Richmond.
Colleen Quinn opened the flood gates for Richmond, scoring the first three goals less than five minutes into the competition (12:31, 11:49, 10:47). With ten total goals in the first quarter, the Spiders led the Dukes 10-4. Quarters two and three stood still for both squads. Duquesne won the second period 2-1, pushing the score to 11-6 at the break. As both teams returned from halftime, the game remained slow with a 1-1 third quarter, making it a 12-7 Richmond lead entering the final period. The Spiders returned to their first quarter antics, scoring eight goals to Duquesne's two in the final fifteen minutes. Multiple new faces from the Richmond bench joined the action through the final minutes of the game as Richmond comfortably defeated Duquesne 20-9.
With recent losses to No. 17 Navy and No. 13/15 Virginia, Colleen Quinn was held to 1 point from a solo goal between the contests. The Richmond scoring leader entered this one hungry for redemption, and accomplished just that against the Dukes. Quinn ended her day with 8 points coming from 6 goals and 2 assists. She went 2-2 from the free position. The junior attack found success on the defensive side of the ball as well, scooping 2 ground balls, forcing 1 caused turnover and winning 2 draw controls. Quinn looks to continue this success through Richmond's conference schedule.
Ali Susskind was a constant threat against the Duquesne defense, scoring 4 goals on the day.
Three other Spiders were able to find the back of the net twice through the game, aiding in other stat categories as well:
Goalie time was split between Nicole Burney and Abby Francioli. Burney took the first half as Francioli took the second. Burney inherited 2 saves, allowing 6 goals. Francioli netted 5 saves, allowing only 3 goals.
Up next, the Spiders return to Robins Stadium after a four-game road sequence as they will host Davidson on Saturday, March 16 at 4:30 p.m.
