Spider Baseball Drops Series Opener to Davidson

DAVIDSON, NC – The University of Richmond baseball team scored first, but Davidson College squad came away with a 6-1 victory Friday evening at Wilson Field to snap their seven-game losing streak.
Game two of the series is set for 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Field. There will not be a broadcast stream for this contest.
Richmond, now 16-22 on the season and 6-4 in league play, took a quick 1-0 lead when lead-off man Aaron Whitley scored from second on DJ Pacheco's base hit to right.
Davidson tallied single runs in the second, third and sixth. The seventh inning the Wildcats broke through and tacked on three more runs to keep the Spiders at bay.
Richmond had nine hits in the contest, Pacheco and Jack Arcamone each tallying two hits. After Whitley scored in the first the Spiders didn't get anyone past second.
UR starter Logan Ymker went four and a third of an inning, scattering two runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Brian Reinke went two and a third of an inning, allowing four runs on six hits and two strikeouts.
Chase Topolski got the final out of the seventh, inducing a flyout. Matthew Anderson tossed a scoreless eighth inning, stranding a runner that reached on a walk.
