Spider Baseball Picks Up Midweek Road Victory Over Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team picked up the squad's first midweek victory of the season Tuesday, defeating Longwood 7-5 at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
Richmond, now 12-16 on the season, jumps back into Atlantic 10 Conference action this weekend heading to New York to face Fordham. First pitch on Friday, April 5 is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
UR starter Vincent Corso tallied three scoreless frames, collecting four strikeouts, while working around one hit and a walk.
Richmond got on the board first in the top of the fourth, as Aidan O'Keefe scored on Jack Arcamone's triple.
Longwood answered in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 3-1 lead off Jackson Kraemer. Kraemer allowed the three runs on four hits and a walk.
Aaron Whitley tallied his fifth home run of the season to lead off the fifth to make it 3-2.
Ethan Sannes got the win after he tossed a clean fifth, working around an infield single, to quickly get the Spider offense back at the plate.
After Connor Larson legged out a triple to start the fifth, Phil Bernstein collected his team-leading leading 25th hit and 26th RBI with a bases loaded infield hit to tie the game. Jake Topolski scored two runs with an infield single to give the Spiders a 5-3 lead.
Sannes handed it over to Jackson Hinchliffe in the sixth as the Lancers tallied only one run. Hinchliffe stranded two and struck out two in his inning of work. Dane Armson tossed a scoreless seventh, working around one walk and striking out two.
Topolski came up with the base loaded in the eighth and doubled down the left field line to score two more runs, putting the Spiders up 7-4.
Armson handed the ball off to Matthew Anderson with two on in the bottom of the eighth. Lancers got one run on a hit and a sacrifice fly, but Anderson took care of the final out himself. Cole Hentschel picked up his third save of the season after retiring the Lancers in order with two strikeouts.
