Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse program dropped its Saturday afternoon matchup against UMass 13-12 after a back-and-forth fight at Robins Stadium on Senior Day. As the regular season comes to an end, the Spiders move to the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championships. UMass claimed the regular season conference title and the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
Richmond kept margins close through the entirety of the game, allowing only the first quarter to not end in a tie (2-1). An electric second quarter for the Spiders pulled hope closer as Grace Muldoon notched two scores, Juliana Stanley pushed through a free position goal and Caroline Murphy scored her first goal of the season directly from her own draw control. Richmond trailed at the half 6-5. Competition remained even through the final thirty minutes as each program found seven scores. The Spiders were never able to make up ground from the first quarter one-point deficit, putting the final score to 13-12.
Despite the loss, Grace Muldoon ended her day with impressive statistics in both defensive and offensive areas of the game. She contributed on offense with 6 points from 4 goals and 2 assists, shooting for .571. Her defensive success is backed up by 5 draw controls, 4 ground balls and 1 caused turnover.
Five other Spiders were able to find the back of the net for individual goals through the game, aiding in other stat categories as well:
