Spider Baseball Offense Explodes for Big A-10 Road Victory Over URI

Richmond, 23-27 on the season and 12-8 in league action, goes for the series sweep of Rhode Island, 16-27 on the year and 8-12 in conference play, Sunday at Bill Beck Field with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
The Spiders were up 4-0 after the first two innings. Aaron Whitley legged out two doubles and scored in both innings. UR took advantage of a URI error and three walks in the first inning and had three back-to-back hits in the second to expand the lead.
UR starter Kyle Roche tossed six shutout frames to collect the victory. He scattered four hits and struck out seven. Logan Ymker picked up his first save of the season after tossing three frames, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks, one hit batter and five strikeouts.
The Spiders kicked the game out of reach of the Rams in the fifth inning, batting around and posting five runs on five hits, a walk, a hit batter and a URI balk to make it 9-0. Connor Larson hit a two-run home run, his third of the season, to left field.
UR tacked on five more runs in the seventh on three hits, three walks and a hit batter. With the bases loaded, DJ Pacheco forced in a run after drawing a walk. Jack Arcamone tallied a two RBI base hit before Jake Topolski brought in two more runs with a base hit to center.
The Spiders scored seven runs in the top of the ninth on six hits, two walks and a hit batter. Whitley and Topolski both collected their fourth hits of the day. Topolski and Arcamone each picked up their fourth RBI, while Whitley scored for a fourth time.
