TYSONS, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team fell in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship Finals to crosstown rival VCU Saturday, 16-1, at Capital One Park.

Richmond closes out the season with a 27-32 record and a 13-11 record against A-10 opponents.

Both teams' starters were trading scoreless inning for the first four frames. Esteban Rodriguez was able to get out of early jams, stranding four VCU baserunners. Rodriguez threw three innings, scattering three hits, walked one, hit one and struck out three in his final outing of the season.

Cole Hentschel took over in the fourth, working around one baserunner and collecting a strikeout. The VCU offense tagged Hentschel with five runs on two hits, a walk, and two hit batters in the fifth. Jason Shockley got the final two outs of the fifth, allowing three runs on two hits, a hit batter, and one strikeout.

Dane Armson tossed two scoreless frames before allowing a run in the eighth. He scattered two hits, hit one batter and struck out two in his three innings of work.

Richmond broke up the shutout in the eighth when Jordan Jaffe collected a RBI single to center to score Aaron Whitley who led off with a double down the left field line.

Harrison Clifton allowed seven runs on six hits, three walks and recorded a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning of work. Davis Wallon used two pitches to get the final out of the game.

Four Spiders were named to the A-10 Baseball Championship Team postgame. Starting pitcher Kyle Roche was joined by infielder Jordan Jaffe and outfielders Phil Bernstein and Jack Arcamone.
