Richmond, 21-5 and 4-3 in A-10 action, and Fordham, 12-14 and 5-3 in league play, return to Pitt Field for the second game of the weekend series Saturday with first pitch set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
Fordham jumped out to a quick lead the top of the first with a three-run home run. Richmond starter Esteban Rodriguez settled on the mound, keeping the Rams off the bord for the next two and two-third of an inning.
During that time, the Spiders offense chipped away at the deficit. Returning to the lineup for the first time in nine games due to an injury, Phil Bernstein launched his third home run of the season to right field in the first. Connor Larson hit his third home run of the season to left center to get the Spiders within one in the third.
In the fourth, Jack Arcamone and DJ Pacheco executed a double steal, with Arcamone scoring on the play as the Fordham catcher dropped the ball. Pacheco moved up to second.
In the fifth, Bernstein picked up Larson with a base hit through the right side of the infield to give Richmond the lead, 4-3. Jordan Jaffe followed with an RBI single of his own, picking up Aaron Whitley from third before Bernstein scored on Brady O'Brien's ground out to put the Spiders up 6-3.
Spider reliever Ryan Bilka threw two and a third of an inning of scoreless action before allowing his first of two home runs in the seventh. Jaffe launched a two-run home run to the batter's eye in center field to give Richmond an 8-4 lead.
After a scoreless eighth, Fordham jumped on Bilka in his fifth inning on the mound, tagging him for five runs before an out was recorded in the inning. Bilka finished his outing allowing eight runs, seven earned on seven hits, one walk, one hit batter and three strikeouts over four and two-thirds of a frame.
Dylan Siesky got the final two outs, allowing two runs on two hits, a walk and a strikeout.
Arcamone hit a home run with two outs in the ninth, collecting his team-leading eighth home run of the season.
