Spider Baseball Extends Win Streak to Six, Defeats Lafayette and UMass Lowell

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team picked up two victories Saturday at Pitt Field to tally six-straight victories and move to 13-2 on the season. UR defeated Lafayette 9-1 in game one, then came back to defeat UMass Lowell 12-2 in eight innings in game two.
Richmond returns to Pitt Field Sunday to take on Lafayette at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+ after UMass Lowell and Lafayette face off at 10:30 a.m.
In the first game against Lafayette, Michael Elko got Richmond on the board with an RBI double in the second. The Leopards evened the game in the top of the fifth but the Spiders answered with a sacrifice fly by DJ Pacheco in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead. Phil Bernstein launched his second home run in the sixth to push the lead to 3-1.
Richmond bats exploded for six runs on four hits, two hit by pitches and a walk to put the game out of reach. Aaron Whitley tallied an RBI base hit, while Jordan Jaffe doubled to bring in Whitley and Bernstein. Jack Arcamone tripled, extending his hit streak to nine games, and brought in Jaffe and Brady O'Brien. Arcamone scored on Aidan O'Keefe's sacrifice fly to give Richmond 9-1 lead.
Jackson Hinchliffe allowed only two walks while striking out four in four innings of work. Brian Reinke allowed one run on four hits, two strikeouts and a hit batter in two innings while Chayse Gruber tallied an inning allowing one hit, one walk and one hit batter. Tyler Rigot picked up the victory after two scoreless frames with one strikeout.
In game two, UMass Lowell put up two quick runs on the board. Richmond bats answered for five runs on five hits and a walk in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Jaffe picked up Whitley with a base hit to center. Bernstein then scored on O'Brien's sacrifice fly. Jaffe scored on O'Keefe base hit before he and Arcamone scored on DJ Pacheco' double to center.
Richmond tagged on three more runs in the fourth. Connor Larson doubled then scored when Jaffe forced him in after getting hit for the second time this game. Richmond got a run on a bases loaded ground out and Bernstein scored on a passed ball.
The Spiders pushed the lead to 11-1 with three runs on two hits, two walks ana hit by pitch in the fifth. Pacheco picked up two more RBI with a base hit to center before scoring on a bases loaded ground out.
O'Brien led off the eighth with a triple off the center field wall then ended the game when he scored on Arcamone's base hit to right.
Chase Topolski went four innings, allowing two runs on five hits, a walk and a hit batter with two strikeouts. Dylan Siesky made his season debut with a scoreless frame, walking one and striking out two. Glenn Smith got his first career victory after three scoreless frames, giving up just one hit and striking out one.
