Spider Baseball Suffers Setback at GW

ARLINGTON, VA. – The University of Richmond baseball team dropped the second game of the weekend series 6-1 Saturday at Tucker Field to George Washington University.
The series finale is set for a noon first pitch Sunday at Tucker Field and will be streamed on ESPN+. Richmond falls to 25-12 on the season and 7-10 in Atlantic 10 Conference action while GW moves to 20-18 on the year and 8-9 in league play.
GW had a 2-0 lead through the first four innings, before UR was able to scratch a run across in the top of the fifth. RJ Rickabaugh drew a walk to reach, advanced on a Conor Larson sacrifice bunt before scoring on Aaron Whitley's base hit to center field.
GW bats got to UR starter Esteban Rodriguez in the bottom of the fifth. Rodriguez went four and one-third of an inning, allowing four runs, one unearned, on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Chase Topolski allowed two inherited runners score then two more Revs crossed the plate in the fifth on four hits, including a bases-clearing three RBI double.
Hugh Hill got the final out of the seventh inning with a strikeout, but he allowed one walk and a runner to advance on a failed pickoff attempt.
Sam Young retired the Revs in order in the bottom of the eighth, inducing two ground outs and getting a strikeout to end the inning.
Both squads left 10 runners on the bases in the contest. Spiders had two on with two out in the top of the ninth but were stranded.
