RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team fell 11-3 to Davidson Friday afternoon in Atlantic 10 Conference action at Pitt Field.
The series finale between UR, now 32-19 on the year and 13-16 in A-10 play, and Davidson, 25-26 on the season and 18-11 in league action, is set for a 12 p.m. first pitch Saturday at Pitt Field and streamed on ESPN+. Prior to the start of the game, the program will hold Senior Day festivities, recognizing 13 Spider Baseball student-athletes and their families.
Davidson jumped on Spider starter Esteban Rodriguez for four runs, three in the first inning, on six hits and three hit batters over three innings of work. Rodriguez despite facing the full Wildcat line-up in the first, he collected three of his four strikeouts in the frame.
UR relievers Chase Topolski and Dylan Siesky both allowed one run over two and two-thirds of an inning of work. Topolski walked three, hit one batter, struck out two without allowing a hit. Siesky walked two, hit one and struck out three.
Richmond had batters on five of the first six innings but were all stranded until the seventh when the squad brought in three on two singles and four walks. With the bases loaded and two outs, Phil Bernstein scored two with a liner off the wall in right. After Jack Arcamone loaded the bases after drawing another walk, Brady O'Brien forced in the third run of the inning with a walk of his own. Davidson got a fly out to get out of the bases loaded jam.
Brian Reinke allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout, while Sam Young was tagged with three runs on two hits, two walks and two wild pitches while collecting two outs. Glenn Smith got the final out in the ninth via a strikeout.
UR went down in order in the eighth and had two on and two out in the ninth but Davidson got the flyout to collect the win.
