Spider Baseball Offense Explodes in Win Over Rhode Island

Richmond, now 14-13 on the season and 3-5 in league play, and Rhode Island, 7-18 on the year and 3-5 in conference action, return to Pitt Field Sunday for the series finale. First pitch is set for noon and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Joey Giordano moved to 6-0 on the season after scattering two runs, one earned, on seven hits and four strikeouts over six innings of work. Dylan Siesky collected the save, scattering three hits and striking out two in three innings of action.
After Rhode Island got a run in the top of the first on a hit and a Spider miscue, the Richmond offense answered with nine runs of their own on seven hits in the bottom of the frame. UR scored six runs on six hits, a walk and two hit batters while batting around to knock out URI's starter without getting an out. The Spiders tacked on three more runs in the frame on the Rams reliever before the frame ended.
In the second, Noah Haught collected his first of three base hits on the day to score Chris Schaller from second. Schaller doubled to right center to score Dylan Winebrenner in the third to push the Spiders lead to 11-2.
Haugh tripled to lead off the fourth then scored on Winebrenner's base hit. Sean Scanlon launched his second two-run home run of the weekend to right field to make it 14-2.
Haught scored for the third time of the day in the sixth inning on a Rams miscue at first. Trevor Dosenbach legged out a triple hit into the right field corner to score RJ Johnson and Noah Harvey to finish the Spiders scoring at 17-2.
