04/18/2026 | Baseball
Joey Giordano moves to 9-0 with the victory and is the only pitcher in NCAA Division I to have nine victories but also win each of his starts. He allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits, one walk, two hit batters and five strikeouts.
Evan Wilson got the Spiders going in the first, hitting a lead off solo home run to deep center field off the right side of the batter's eye. Chris Schaller brought in two more runs with a base hit to left. With two outs and the bases loaded, Noah Haught drew a walk to force in the Spiders fourth run of the frame. Wilson picked up two more RBI with a base hit to right field to make it 6-0 after the first inning.
Dayton (21-17, 6-11 A-10) got three runs in the top of the second, but Richmond (21-18, 9-8 A-10) answered with three runs of their own. Dylan Winebrenner extended his hitting streak to 13 games with his 12th home run, a solo home run to right field. Chris Schaller followed with his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to deep left field, to push UR's lead to 9-3 after two innings.
UD got two more runs in the third inning, but Michael Elko answered with a two-run home run to deep right field for his sixth home run of the season.
Giordano settled in and kept the Flyers off the board for three straight innings. He worked around four hits, stranded them all and collected four strikeouts, before Justin Gay took over on the mound. Gay allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work for his fourth save on the season.
In the fourth Inning, Noah Harvey brought in RJ Rickabaugh from first with a base hit and a defensive miscue by Dayton in centerfield to push Richmond's lead to 12-5.
Wilson went deep in the seventh inning, hitting the left side of the batter's eye in center field for his second home run of the game and fifth homer of the season.
Sean Scanlon hit the Spiders sixth home run to start the eighth inning, matching Tuesday's home run total in a 10-2 victory at James Madison. Scanlon collected his fifth home run to make it 14-6. Haught tacked on two more runs with a base hit through the infield.
