UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders fell to the Seton Hall Pirates, 8-2, Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field.

With the setback, Richmond drops to 0-4 on the young season, while the Pirates improve to 2-2.

Sophomore 3B Matt Dacey paced the Richmond offense on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with his first career home run. Classmate Doug Kraeger kept his hot start to the season going, with a hit and a run scored.

Out of the bullpen, RHP James Lively, RHP Dan Martinson and LHP Ryan Donnelly all had nice outings, combining to retire the last 11 Seton Hall hitters in a row.

Seton Hall got off to a quick start on a beautiful day at Pitt Field, scoring runs in each of the first three innings to chase Richmond starter Jonathan de Marte. The Pirates scored one run in the first and second innings and then put a four-spot on the board in the third. After three complete, Seton Hall led Richmond, 6-0.

Looking for a jolt, the Spiders got just that in the bottom of the fourth thanks to Dacey. Playing in his first game for Richmond, the sophomore transfer from the University of Michigan blasted a two-run homer over the fence in right field, cutting the Seton Hall lead to 6-2.

Richmond was unable to get a rally going after the fourth, however, allowing Seton Hall to take game one of the series, 8-2.

The Richmond Spiders will wrap up their three-game series with Seton Hall tomorrow with a doubleheader. First game starts at 11 a.m. at Pitt Field, with game two slated to begin 30 minutes following game one.
