UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders dropped a doubleheader to the Seton Hall Pirates on Sunday afternoon at Pitt Field.
Richmond dropped game one to the Pirates, 16-2, and fell in the second game to Seton Hall, 6-2, in eight innings after the game was called due to darkness. With the pair of setbacks, the Spiders fall to 0-6 on the season, while SHU improves to 4-2.
In game one of the doubleheader, senior 2B Chris Bell had a pair of hits, including a RBI double, while junior OF Eric Flanagan also drove in a run with a two-base hit.
In game two, sophomore Doug Kraeger and junior Ryan Cook each had RBI doubles for the Spiders. On the mound, LHP Zach Grossfeld had a great outing out of the bullpen, pitching a perfect two innings of relief.
In the second game on Saturday, Seton Hall jumped out to an early, 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Richmond responded right back in the bottom of the frame on the RBI doubles from Kraeger and Cook to tie the game at 2-2.
The Pirates weren't to be denied, however, as SHU took the lead back with two more runs in the top of the second. Seton Hall added two more in the top of the fifth to give the Pirates their winning margin of 6-2.
The Richmond Spiders will next be in action on Tuesday when the team hosts in-state rival Old Dominion at Pitt Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
