Presbyterian Uses Four-Run Ninth To Overcome Spiders, 6-3

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team fell to Presbyterian, 6-3, on Friday afternoon at the Davidson Tournament.
With the loss, Richmond falls to 5-4 on the season overall, while Presbyterian improves to 11-3 on the year.
Offensively, Richmond was led by C Aaron Newman, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. 3B Matt Dacey had a pair of hits, while freshman D.J. Lee had a RBI single for the Spiders.
On the mound, RHP Ryan Cook pitched six strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out seven. RHP Dan Martinson tossed two innings of scoreless relief out of the bullpen. RHP Joey Vecchione (0-1) took the loss for Richmond.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Spiders loaded the bases with two outs after a single from Dacey, a single from DH Kurtis Brown and a walk to SS Tyler Beckwith. Newman stepped to the plate for UR and delivered, tying the game with a two-run single to right field. Next up was Lee, who singled down the right-field line, scoring Beckwith to give Richmond a 3-2 lead.
The Spiders ran in to trouble in the top of the ninth, however, as Presbyterian scored four times on just one hit and two errors to take a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom of the frame, the Spiders went down in order, as Presbyterian claimed a come-from-behind victory.
The Richmond Spiders will be back on the field Saturday morning, when the team face Yale in the Davidson Tournament. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
