Spider Baseball Falls To Norfolk State

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team fell to the Norfolk State Spartan, 12-5, on Tuesday afternoon at Pitt Field.
With the loss, Richmond drops to 20-14 on the season overall, while Norfolk State improves to 19-10 on the season with their 13th-straight victory.
OF Tanner Stanley led the offense for Richmond on Tuesday, batting 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two walks and a RBI. Freshman Kyle Adams had a two-run triple for the Spiders in the bottom of the ninth, while OF Michael Morman had a RBI single in the game's final frame.
LHP Chris Bates pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for Richmond, while LHP Zak Sterling returned to the mound for the first time since March 28, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Spiders had opportunities in the game against the Spartans, but couldn't come up with a hit when they needed it the most to close the gap. Richmond batted 3-for-20 with runners on base in the game and 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position.
The Richmond Spiders will be back in action on Wednesday when the team travels to Norfolk, Va. to play in-state rival Old Dominion. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
