Spider Track and Field Places 18th At Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The University of Richmond Spiders track and field team held its own at the competitive Colonial Relays meet this weekend in Williamsburg, Va.
The Spiders placed 18th overall out of 49 teams competing with 29 points at the two-day meet. Villanova captured the title with 148 points.
Richmond began the meet strong, when Emma Nowak placed sixth in the University section of the 3000 meters for a time of 10:36.91.
Junior Janel Francis placed fifth overall in the long jump at 5.68 meters. At this distance, she currently holds the best long jump performance in the A-10. Spider freshman Liz Montague set a personal best in the event, achieving a distance of 5.40 meters to win her flight.
Taylor Clevinger ran a hard 1500 and improved upon her performance last weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational. She placed eleventh overall and ran for a time of 4:33.28.
Richmond was able to continue its past excellence in relay events on Saturday. In the 4x800, Haley Preschutti, Alyson McGonigle, Stephanie Hughes and Taylor Clevinger ran for third place in 8:58.51. They were just off the 2012 school record of 8:56.37.
The sprint medley also excelled, and Deborah Fajuyigbe, Janel Francis, Jade Gregory, and Kylie Regan ran a 4:09 and took fifth place overall.
The 4x1500 team also earned top marks, as Amanda Corbisiero, Kaelyn Heinicke, Kelly Bailey and Emily Graber placed second overall.
Richmond runners also participated in the 5000 meter, where Jill Prentice and Courtney Thompson placed seventh and 12th, respectively.
In the field events, Sarah Timko also saw a season best, clearing 1.55 meters in the high jump for an eleventh place finish.
The team will be back in action this weekend, when they head to Tempe, Arizona for the Sun Angel Classic.
