RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team fell to VMI, 19-6, Tuesday at Pitt Field. The Spiders fall to 21-19 on the season while the Keydets move to 14-31 for the year.

Richmond is back in action Friday, hosting George Mason at Pitt Field for Alumni Weekend. First pitch for Friday's contest is set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN-Plus.

After three scoreless innings by both teams, VMI broke the tie with a single run in the fourth. Spider starter Josh Willitts (Southampton, N.J) tossed the opening frame retiring the side in order with a strikeout before tossing it to Vincent Corso (West Harrison, N.Y.) for the next two innings. Corso didn't allow a hit, but walked two and struck out two.

Jesse Heikkinen (Holt, Mich.), the third of 12 Richmond pitchers on the day, took the loss after allowing the first VMI in the fourth, on one hit, a walk and one strikeout.

The VMI offense put up six runs in the fifth, added two in the sixth, and nine in the seventh before tallying a single run in the eighth. The UR pitching staff gave up 19 runs on 11 hits, 13 walks and five errors.

Zach Lass (Mechanicsville, Va.) tallied his first of three hits on the day to break up the no-hitter in the fifth. Jason Neff (West Palm Beach, Fla.) followed with a double to push Lass to third. D.J. Pacheco (Danvers, Mass.) picked up Lass from third on a ground out to put Richmond on the board.

In the sixth, Alden Mathes (Broomall, Pa.) led off with a solo shot down the right field line for his seventh home run of the season. He is now tied with Will Gersky (Woodbury, Conn.) for the team lead.

Johnny Hipsman (Chester, N.Y.) got the Spiders going in the eighth with a hit up the middle. Lass tallied his third hit before Neff drew a walk to load the bases. VMI pitchers then allowed two more walks to force in two runs. Christian Beal (Flossmoor, Ill.) collected two RBI with a hit up through the infield for a 4-run frame.

Harrison Clifton (Henrico, Va.) got the final out of the eighth with a strikeout. Brian Reinke (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) came out for the ninth, allowing a walk and collecting two strikeouts.
