Four Spiders Score in 4-0 Shutout Win Over Saint Louis

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The University of Richmond field hockey team collected their second Atlantic 10 Conference victory of the season with a 4-0 shutout of Saint Louis Friday at Sportport International.
Richmond, 5-3 on the season 2-0 in A-10 action, is back in action Sunday to take on No. 1 Northwestern (8-1) at 12 p.m. CT / 1 p.m. ET at NU's Lakeside Field on BIGTEN Network Plus (subscription needed).
"Today was a great team win," head coach Jamie Montgomery said. "The group worked hard for each other from start to finish, scored some really beautiful goals and notched a shutout!"
Senior Regan McCrossan (Waxhaw, N.C.) got the Spider offense started, tallying her sixth goal of the season after receiving a pass from fellow senior Lindsey Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) in the fifth minute of action. The Spiders tallied six shots and picked up a corner in the first quarter.
In the 24th minute, Evie Hanson (Virginia Beach, Va.) made it 2-0, stuffing a rebound back into the goal. Sophomore Jessica Mullin (Berwyn, Pa.) collected her first collegiate assist on the play.
Sophomore Stevie Drum (Virginia Beach, Va.) also got in on the scoring action in the second quarter, tallying her third goal of the season after dribbling past her SLU defender for the score. McCrossan picked up her first assist of the season on the play.
The Spiders got an early corner and fired off five shots on the SLU goalie but Richmond was held off the board in the third quarter.
Richmond collected two of the squad's six corners in the fourth quarter. Freshman Lainey Nichols (Powhatan, Va.) collected her second goal of the season with 39 seconds left in the contest.
Both Spider goalies saw action in the victory. Senior Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) made two saves in 49:48 minutes in goal as sophomore Kristen Rake (Wynnewood, Pa.) collected a save in 10:12 minutes of action. The Richmond defense held Saint Louis to eight shots and three corners.
