Spider Baseball Falls Late at Longwood

The Spiders, now 7-9 on the year, return to Pitt Field to host Siena for a weekend series starting on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 11 a.m. Saturday with game two following shortly after the completion of game one.
Jake Elbeery collected his first home run of the season with the 357-foot blast to right field. Chase Conklin collected a one-out single and was followed by walks from Alden Mathes and Johnny Hipsman to load the bases. Elbeery drove the tenth pitch of the at bat over the right field fence.
Richmond got on the board in the fourth when Jordan Jaffe scored from second on Zach Lass' second hit of the game. Jaffe picked up a base hit and took second on a ground out.
Spider starter Harrison Clifton was tagged with four runs on five hits, a walk and a hit batter with one strike out over three innings in his first collegiate start. Dane Armson tossed three scoreless frames, scattering four hits and a hit batter and striking out four.
Matthew Anderson took over in the seventh, making his first appearance of the season. Anderson gave up three runs, two earned, on three hits over one and a third of an inning of work. Cole Hentschel took over to get the final two outs, allowing a hit and hitting a batter.
The Lancers and Spiders will face off a second midweek match up March 28 with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m. at Pitt Field.
