Navy's Big Second Half Too Much For No. 18 Women's Lacrosse
03/05/2023 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond, Va.— The University of Richmond Women's Lacrosse team fell for the first time this season, dropping a 20-9 contest to Navy at Robins Stadium Sunday.
Richmond goals were scored by Sarah Roycroft and Grace Muldoon with two each, Arden Tierney, Lindsey Frank (assist), Ali Susskind and Maggie O'Brien (assist) while Colleen Quinn chipped in three assists, but it wasn't enough as the Midshipmen went on three, three-plus goal scoring runs to disrupt the Spiders momentum.
Richmond never carried a lead in the contest and the only tie came when the score was 1-1 early in the first, however, the Spiders were able to keep the Midshipmen at bay throughout the opening half for a 10-8 score at the break.
From there, though, the Spiders were silenced, only scored once in the second half as the Midshipmen poured on 10 goals including two five-goal runs.
Navy had the upper hand on clears (18-22 to Richmond's 8-10), ground balls (17 to Richmond's 12) and shots on goal (27 to Richmond's 19) while the Spiders held the advantage on draws (18-14). While both teams totaled 34 shots, Navy proved to be more opportunistic, rattling off 27 on-target shots to Richmond's 19.
Daniela Stelcer and Emilie Bloyer shared time in cage. Stelcer allowed 11 goals and made three saves, while Bloyer let in nine and came up with four stops.
Richmond looks to bounce back when it faces Old Dominion on the road Wednesday. Opening draw is set for noon.
