Chase Topolski took the mound in the resumed top of the ninth for the Spiders, allowing one hit before getting a popup to second baseman Jared Sprague-Lott to end the frame. The Spiders were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth to drop a 12-9 decision after a 22-hour delay.
Richmond got on the board in the first inning with a solo home run from Johnny Hipsman, his sixth long ball of the year.
Fordham answered with a grand slam off of Spider starter Brenden Argomaniz in the top of the second. The Rams took advantages of two walks and a Spider miscue to load the bases.
The Spiders tied the game at 4-all in the bottom of the third. Jared Sprague-Lott led off the inning with a solo home run to left for his tenth of the season, while Jordan Jaffe hit his eighth home run of the season to put the Spiders within one, 4-3. Alden Mathes drew a walk then stole his seventh base of the season before scoring on Christian Beal's base hit to tie the game.
Argomaniz kept the Rams off the board in the third and fourth, but the Rams loaded the bases in the fifth with one out. Kyle Subers took over and allowed a first pitch grand slam to the Rams before getting the next to batters out. Argomaniz allowed seven runs on three hits, four walks and two hit batters with six strikeouts in four and a third of an inning of work.
The Spider bats didn't go quiet in the bottom of the fifth. Neff led off with a solo home run to left for his fourth of the season. With two on, Chase Conklin doubled in Beal from second. Sprague-Lott picked up Jake Elbeery with a sacrifice fly to get Richmond within one, 8-7.
The Rams pushed their lead back to three runs with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh off Subers, 10-7.
Mikey Kluska got the Spider offense going with a base hit in the seventh. Sprague-Lott followed with a double to left center. Kluska scored on asacrifice fly to center by Hipsman to make it 10-8. Sprague-Lott then scored from second on a Jaffe base hit to no-man's-land behind first base to get within one.
Subers headed back out for the ninth, his fourth full inning in relief, and allowed two base hits to start the inning. Alden Mathes collected an outfield assist when he threw out the lead runner trying to advance to third, but the Rams hit a two run home run for a 12-9 lead before the game was suspended.
