Spider Baseball Takes A-10 Series Over GW

ARLINGTON, Va. – Richmond Baseball erupted for 13 runs on a season-high 17 hits to defeat George Washington 13-3 Sunday and take the Atlantic 10 series at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Richmond, now 14-18 on the season and 3-3 in league play, is back in action Tuesday against No. 7 Virginia in Charlottesville for a 4 pm first pitch on ACCN+.
Spiders jumped on the scoreboard first in the third on back-to-back two-out RBI doubles from Alden Mathes and Jordan Jaffe.
GW got a run back in the bottom of the third and tied the game at 2-all in the fourth off of UR starter Jeremy Neff. Neff scattered two runs on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in four innings of work.
Reigning Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week Kyle Subers collected the win after only allowing one run on one hit with three walks and a strikeout. He held the Colonials off the board in four of his five innings of work.
Jake Elbeery broke up the tie in sixth with a sacrifice fly to left to score Jaffe.
The Richmond offense erupted in the seventh inning. Mikey Kluska led of the inning with his third home run of the season to right field. With the bases loaded, Beal forced in a run after drawing a four-pitch walk. Elbeery followed with a two-RBI double right. Zach Lass legged out a double to left center to score two more runs in the inning, pushing the Spiders lead out to 9-2.
In the eighth inning, UR added three more runs. Jared Sprague-Lott scored the first run on a wild pitch. Mathes picked up Jason Neff for his second RBI on his third hit of the game. Elbeery tallied his fourth RBI of the game with a base hit to right.
Hipsman doubled in Sprague-Lott in the ninth to push the Spiders lead out to 13-3.
