Whitley Blast Powers Richmond Past Sacred Heart

RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond baseball broke through a pitcher's duel in the seventh on an Aaron Whitley solo home run and spur the Spiders on to a 2-0 victory over Sacred Heart in the second game of the Central Virginia Challenge Saturday afternoon.
Richmond, now 4-6 on the year, will host Central Connecticut State Sunday at noon for the final game of the weekend tournament.
Whitley hit his first home run as a Spider over the right centerfield wall with one out in the frame to give Richmond a 1-0 lead.
Richmond tacked on a second run in the eighth when RJ Rickabaugh trotted home on Jackson Kraemer's sacrifice fly. Rickabaugh legged out a triple to start the inning after collecting his first collegiate hit in the fourth.
Richmond starter Brian Reinke worked six innings, only allowing two hits and three walks, while collecting a career-high 10 strikeouts. Logan Ymker (1-0) picked up the win after two innings of scoreless action, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out two. Cole Hentchel tallied the first save of the season, striking out three after allowing a hit in the ninth.
