Richmond, now 14-20 on the season and 4-3 in league play, will face GW, 20-13 and 4-3, on Saturday with first pitch at 1 p.m. on Spider Baseball Alumni Day. All Spider Baseball alumni in attendance will be recognized prior to the start of the game.
Aaron Whitley led off the fifth with his sixth home run of the season for his third hit of the day. DJ Pacheco doubled then scored on Jordan Jaffe's two-run home run to get within a run at 7-6. After three straight walks, Zach Lass hit a pinch-hit two RBI-base hit to give UR an 8-7 lead. Batting for a second time in the fifth, Whitley doubled in two and took third on the throw home to finish the day a triple shy of the cycle. Bernstein picked up the Spiders eighth RBI of the game with a base hit as Whitley trotted in from third to push the score out to 11-7.
In his first collegiate start for the Spiders, Jackson Hinchliffe worked around a lead off walk to toss a scoreless first. The Revs got to him in the second, tallying three runs on three hits, a UR miscue, and a walk.
Aidan O'Keefe put the Spiders on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run down the right field line for his third long ball of the year and make it 3-1.
GW pushed the lead out to 6-1 in the third, picking up three runs on three hits and a UR miscue all with two outs off Hinchliffe.
Richmond bats responded in the bottom of the frame. Connor Larson and Whitley picked up back-to-back base hits before Larson scored on Phil Bernstein's double to left. After DJ Pacheco drew a walk to load the bases, Bernstein scored on a ground out to make it 6-3.
Brian Reinke took over for Hinchliffe in the fourth. Reinke allowed one run in the fourth, then shut down the GW offense. He collected his first win of the season after retiring seven batters in a row, including four strikeouts, over three innings of work.
Logan Ymker tallied a scoreless seventh inning, stranding a lead-off GW runner at second after inducing a ground out and picking up two strikeouts. He got a third strikeout to start the eighth, but GW got two hits and a walk off Ymker before he was lifted from the game. Cole Hentschel stranded the two GW runners after getting a strikeout to end the frame.
Hentschel collected his fifth save of the season, despite allowing a run on two hits in the ninth.
