Spider Baseball Drops Senior Day Doubleheader to VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond dropped both games of Friday's Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader to crosstown rival VCU at Pitt Field. The Rams took game one 11-4 and game two by a score of 12-4.
Richmond finishes the 2024 regular season with a record of 24-30 and 13-11 in league action. The Spiders clinched a spot in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament with Thursday's 12-10 victory over VCU but await to see seeding and opponent. The postseason tournament starts Tuesday, May 21 at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.
Between games, Spider Baseball honored five seniors and six graduate students and their families. Chase Conklin, Jake Topolski, Zach Lass, Cole Hentschel, Harrison Clifton, Matt Stinebiser, Josh Willitts, Kyle Roche, Logan Ymker, Vincent Corso and Dane Armson were all recognized.
In the first game, VCU took a quick 5-0 on UR. Kyle Roche allowed all three runs in the first inning before tallying an out. Roche settled to get the next three batters out, two via strikeout, after the first four Rams reached.
Jackson Hinchliffe tossed two innings, scattering two runs on four hits, two walks and a strikeout.
Richmond got on the board in third inning, capitalizing on back-to-back walks and a sacrifice bunt for Jack Arcamone to score on a ground out.
VCU pushed their lead out to 7-1 in the fifth. UR got two runs back in the bottom of the frame as Aidan O'Keefe scored on Aaron Whitley's base hit to centerfield. Connor Larson then scored on Jordan Jaffe's sacrifice fly.
The Rams added a single run in the seventh and three in the ninth to put the game out of reach of the Spiders. Jake Topolski picked up DJ Pacheco after he reached on a lead of double in the eighth.
Ethan Sannes, Logan Ymker and Dane Armson all saw action in the first game. Sannes got one out and walked two. Ymker scattered three runs on six hits, two walks and a strikeout while Armson allowed three runs on four hits, three walks and four strikeouts.
In the second game, Chase Topolski retired the Rams in order in the first. VCU tagged Harrison Clifton with one run in the second on three hits, but Clifton tallied three strikeouts. He gave up another run in the third on a hit and a walk.
The Spiders got on the board in the second when Arcamone scored with the bases loaded on RJ Rickabaugh's sacrifice fly. Two more runs scored on a two-base VCU error to give UR a 3-1 lead.
VCU took a 4-3 lead in the fourth on a UR error that scored two runs. VCU tallied two more in the fifth, five in the seventh and a single run in the eighth.
Arcamone tallied his third home run of the season with a solo blast to right field in the sixth.
Vincent Corso took the loss allowing four runs, two earned on four walks and a strikeout in an inning and a third. Jason Shockley scattered two hits and a walk with a strikeout in an inning and two-thirds while Sannes allowed five runs on two hits and two walks in two-third of an inning. Matthew Anderson allowed one run on three hits with two strikeouts in an inning and a third. Davis Wallon retired the Rams in order with two strikeouts in the ninth.
