Luna Paratore Nets Overtime Winner for Spider Hockey

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team defeated Towson, 2-1 in overtime to extend their winning streak to four-straight games and pick up their fourth overtime victory of the season.
Valen Luna Paratore tallied her fourth game-winning goal and seventh overall goal on the season on the Spiders corner play in the 64th minute in overtime. Jess McMeeking inserted the ball to Luna Paratore who did a give-and-go with Clara Larripa for the score nearly four minutes into overtime.
With the victory, Richmond moves to 7-2 on the season. UR jumps back into Atlantic 10 Conference action on Friday, Oct. 4, hosting La Salle for a 5 p.m. contest at Crenshaw Field and streaming on ESPN-plus.
Annie Nash picked up her first goal of the season in the fifth minute of action to put the Spiders on the board first. Nash tipped in a ball sent in by Grace Wiggins from Alexa Derr on UR's first penalty corner of the contest.
Towson evened the contest at 1-all with a penalty stroke in the 20th minute against Thea Conomikes.
UR held the upper hand in shots 14-10 and 13-4 in penalty corners in regulation. Both squads collected corners in the overtime period, while UR picked up had two shots to Towson's one.
Kristen Rake had three of her six saves in the first half.
